Relay For Life Kicks off Friday

American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life here in Tyler County is finally here! Friday, April 24, at 6:30 p.m., hundreds of local folks representing dozens of teams will gather at Woodville’s Eagle Stadium to raise money for cancer research. There are 28 teams so far this year participating in the event. Each year, across the nation, one event brings together entire communities to take part in the fight against cancer. That event is the American Cancer Society Relay For Life®. It’s a time and place where people come to celebrate those who have survived cancer, remember those we’ve lost, and fight back against a disease that touches too many lives. The event will be held Friday, April 24, 2009 from 6:00PM TO 6:00AM at the Woodville High School Football Stadium, and there is something for everyone during the 12 hour event.
Opening ceremonies begin at 7 p.m., with the Survivors Lap at 7:30 p.m. The always moving Luminaria lighting will be held at 10 p.m. Survivors will register from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. The special Survivor/Caregiver dinner will be served from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Opening Ceremonies are held from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m., followed by entertainment by Tawnya’s School of Dance from 8 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Miss Tyler County 2009 Shelby Tillery will entertain from 8:30 p.m. until 9 p.m., Big Red and the Playmakers from 9 p.m. until 10 p.m. when the Luminary Ceremony begins. The Karen Rose Allison Bowlin Reason For Relaying Side Show is from 10:30 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. You’ll have to attend to find out what’s happening between 11 p.m. and midnight, but the Midnight Fun Run will be held from 12 midnight until 12:30 a.m.
The “Best Boudreaux Joke” is from 12:30 a.m. until 1 a.m., Followed by a host of activities the rest of the night. Camp Break Down will be from 4:30 a.m. until 5:30 a.m. and the closing ceremony from 5:30 a.m. until 6 a.m. This year’s Masters of Ceremonies are Tyler County Judge Jacques Blanchette and Josh Boudreaux. Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy an evening of terrific family fun, lots of good food and and opportunity to help your friends and neighbors raise money for cancer research.
