Western Weekend Rodeo draws big crowd
Tyler County Booster - April 2009
Great weather on Saturday drew a lot of Tyler County Folks and visitors for the day’s two main events: the Western Weekend Parade and Rodeo. The second week of the annual Tyler County Dogwood Festival in Woodville features Western Weekend and two days of rodeo action, thanks to the Woodville Lions Club who shotguns the event. And even with the rain Friday, organizers remained bullish on the success of the annual event. This year featured the best rodeo events in recent history! The Friday night Rodeo was a little dampened by the rain, but Saturday weather turned out great and a huge crowd came out to enjoy the event. Garen Reese was crowned 2008 Western Weekend Rodeo Senior Sweetheart during ceremonies Saturday. One of the most anticipated events of the rodeo each year, especially by the kids, is the Goat Scramble, which is held both nights. A lot of youngsters participate each year with an especially large turnout of kids in the youngest division. This year also featured FFA Steer Saddling and Mutton Bustin’ for the younger kids. Congratulations to those who made the weekend a success.
