Festival Of The Arts Kicks Off The 67th Tyler County Dogwood Festival

Believe it or not, it’s already time for another Tyler County Dogwood Festival! And this year’s festival promises to be bigger and better than ever. The entire family will find interesting things to do during the first weekend of the Dogwood Festival celebrations. This year the Festival of the Arts span Woodville, from Downtown out to Heritage Village! On Saturday, March 20, The Emporium for the Arts and the Tyler County Art League will joined forces to “Celebrate the Arts” in Tyler County by hosting a free day of art demonstrations and music. The celebration will take place in Woodville’s downtown Art District. A variety of artists will be at work painting, working with clay and glass. Local muscians will be filling the air with the sounds of southern country, jazz, rock and folk. Local storytellers will be erecting a 20 foot tipi for families to enter and enjoy the art of storytelling. No admission fee for the 9 a.m.until 4 p.m. activities. Food,drinks and art will be available for purchase. The evening will be topped of with an outstanding concert on the Emporium Stage. Tickets for the concert are $15 each and for sale at the Art Gallery or call 409-283- 2788. The proceeds from the food and concert will benefit the new theater project. Heritage Village will once again feature the amazing annual quilt show, demonstrations by the Sassy Scrappers, Spinners and Weavers, Dying demonstrations, and Hoop Dancing. Musical events inclue Joyce Kean with drumming and dancing, One Reason -Country Gospel, Christy Sheffield -South and Young Mozarts in the Cherokee Church at 2 p.m. James & Priscilla will perform at 11 a.m. Other performers include Arnold Boys, Jimmy Robertson, Carly Smith, Matt Moody & the Woodville High School Choir, and Shelby Tillery. Gates are open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, March 20. Admission for adults is $10 and children under 12 $5. Sunday, March 21, the Village will host Dinner on the Grounds from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. You can see the menu, along with lots of other information about this year’s Festival of the Arts on Pgs. 4C & 5C in this issue!
