Child custody dispute turns into felony arrest
Tyler County Booster
Officers were called to the scene of a family disturbance Monday, July 25, involving the custody of a child/children, approximately 4 miles from Chester on FM 1745N. Mary Jo Dobbins, age 34, of Colmesneil was arrested by Tyler County Sheriff’s deputy Tony Reynolds for assault of a family household member impeding breath/circulation, a charge with penalties raised to felony status by law in 2010. Bond was set by Judge Brian Weatherford in the amount of $20,000. Dobbins was also charged with burglary of a habitation, another felony and bond was set at $20,000. The burglary charge was a result of attempting to take a child/children in a violent situation. The new law, 2201-2B involving family violence, states “The offense is committed by intentionally or recklessly impeding the normal breathing or circulation of the blood of the person by applying pressure to the persons throat or neck or by blocking the persons nose or mouth.” The choking charge was not included in the assault family violence felony charge prior to 2010. |
