Junk metal burglaries on the rise in county

Tyler County Booster

by Kelli Barnes

Due to the high price of metal, $10 per 100 lbs., burglaries in Tyler County have been noticeably higher according to Chief Deputy Clint Sturrock. “One persons trash is another persons treasure they say, but in this case, some folks who are doing a little spring cleaning and planning to make a few dollars on their scrap metal are having it stolen instead,” Sturrock said. Tyler County Sheriff’s Department would like to encourage everyone to pay attention to their neighborhood and be suspicious of strangers and/or strange vehicles in the area. “We want Tyler County residents to call our office anytime they witness suspicious activity,” Sturrock said. “During the recent rash of burglaries in the Colmesneil area, local residents were extremely helpful in providing information to the Sheriff’s Department. Law enforcement, county residents and the media working together will keep our community safer.”
