Tyler County Booster - January 2009
I hope you have already called Heritage Village to start on the road to keeping your 2009 resolution to be more involved. If you haven’t, it is not too late. Just call 283-2272 and ask how you can be of help. You remember that you don’t have to have any particular talent. We just want you to be a part of your Village. As I mentioned last week, the first big opportunity to get involved will be by attending the annual membership meeting to be held on Monday, January 26th at the Pickett House Restaurant located at Heritage Village. You may eat dinner prior to the business meeting. Dinner begins at 6:00 p.m. Cost is $12.00 per person. We ask that you call the Village at 283-2272 to make your reservation so that we will be sure to prepare enough food. You may pay at the door. The business meeting begins promptly at 7:00 p.m. so we ask that you arrive a little earlier. The nominating committee will present a slate for new officers and board members of the Tyler County Heritage Society. Those nominated for positions are: President – Elizabeth Toliver; Vice-President – Fred Sullivan; Secretary – Erline Ingle; Treasurer – Pat Brown. Nominated to serve as board members from 2009-2012 are: Brenda Cowan, Sandy Taylor, Jewel Bell, Jean Lamar, Mayme Brown, Pat Brown, and Erline Ingle. Anna Beth Willis is nominated to serve Tolly Lovelace’s unexpired term until 2011. Nominations will be accepted from the floor for any position provided that permission of the person nominated has been obtained. If you are a Heritage Society member you will receive a mailing with these nominations as provided by our by-laws. This is definitely a meeting you will want to attend. Our guest speaker will be Steve Hart, an author known for his tales of East Texas and the old Southwest. Two of his works are titled Settlers of the Western Woods and By the Muddy Angelina. I am sure you will enjoy his talk. He will also have copies of his books for sale. This would be good time to get an autographed copy for yourself or to give as a gift. When you come for the membership meeting you will be given the opportunity to renew your current membership or to become a new member for 2009. The membership year runs from Feb. 1 – Jan. 31. Annual dues are $20 for individuals, $30 for a family, and $60 for small businesses. You may bring your dues by the Gift Shop at Heritage Village or you may pay dues by mail if you prefer or you will not be able to attend the meeting. The mailing address is Tyler County Heritage Society, P.O. Box 888, Woodville, TX 75979.
