Woodville Grad victim of drunk driver, not war

Tyler County Booster

Joshua Rogers, a 2004 graduate of Woodville High School, was a soldier for the United States from September 13, 2004 until his death on February 16, 2010. The tragedy is that Rogers was not killed while serving overseas in Iraq. He was killed by a drunk driver after he returned home. Antwan Rouse was convicted by a Kentucky jury on January 13 of murder, DUI, leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a license. The murder charge carries a minimum sentence of 20 years without eligibility for parole until Rouse serves 85 percent of the sentence. He has been incarcerated for the past 11 months. The jury recommended 20 years, and Christian County circuit judge Andrew Self will make the final determination about sentencing on March 2. Parents James and Nancy Rogers of Woodville are satisfied with the sentence. “We have four daughters; Josh was our only son,” Nancy said. “We were afraid he (Rouse) would get off with only manslaughter or reckless homicide,” James said. “Texas needs to take a look at its DUI laws. The commonwealth of Kentucky has harsher punishment than Texas.”
