Commissioners approve more outlay for aging Jail
Tyler County Booster - July 2009
As Tyler County Commissioners continue to face the prospects of building a new jail, the expenses of operating the current aging facility continue to mount as old equipment breaks down. During a short special meeting Friday, Tyler County Sheriff David Hennigan explained to Commissioners that the two agenda items concerning his department were the result of equipment just wearing out. “We really don’t have any choice but to replace these things,” Hennigan said. “We are required by the jail commission to have them in working condition.” After discussion, Commissioners approved purchase of a new 60-tray heated food cart for the jail, at a cost of $7,505 and the replacement of the Jail Ice Machine at a cost of $2,914. Both purchases will be paid from the Contingency Fund. In other business, Commissioners approved the purchase of a new 2008 Dump truck from the Buy Board and approved a $500 contribution from the Economic Development fund to help underwrite the cost of hosting the Leadership Southeast Texas Annual Meeting in Tyler County August 20. Blanchette noted that approximately 150 people were expected, and would benefit local businesses and restaurants while they are here, and well worth the contribution.
