Art Musings...

Tyler County Booster

by Jane Martin The CSI group made the trip to Sandy Creek on May 24 to paint. Temperature did not get hot until around noon, so we were glad we were there early. A family showed up to fish and we were able to shoot pictures of them. One actually posed for us. Jean Humphrey used one of her photos to demonstrate at TCAL on the 28th. Merilyn McDonald has started a beautiful pastel portrait of one the fisherman, so look for it in the October Membership Show. This piece is outstanding. On June 28 at 9:00 a.m. we showed a Richard McKinley video at the gallery and have popcorn. We would love for anyone interested in art to attend these special events. Tracey Birdwell at the Flower Branch Daylily Farm invited us to shoot pictures at her gardens in Colmesneil. Our CSI photographer Lisa Richardson set up with professional equipment, the rest of us had to rely on our limited expertise, but I think we all got good photos. Great minds work together as it goes. Merilyn McDonald had purchased Day Lilies last year and got pollen on her nose and Tracey remembered the lady with pollen on her face. The Day Lily farm is planning to have an Azalea Trail for us to paint next Spring so if you are interested in photographing or painting keep this in mind. SO YOU THINK YOU CAN MAKE THE BEST BREAD PUDDING? As artists we find a link between painting, gardening and baking. Notice that I left out house keeping. Housekeeping keeps us from painting and that is not good, however painting, gardening and baking that’s a different story. A few of our members have bragged about their bread pudding so LOOK OUT BOBBY FLAY HERE WE COME. On July 26, we are going to have a bread pudding THROW-DOWN via Food Network style, with a judge and prize. We are putting together a CSI scrapbook so we will be able to share our travels with you, thanks to Bonnie Thompson. The CSI group is comprised of a variety of artist which includes oils, watercolor, acrylic, drawings, charcoal and pastel. The other end of this spectrum is that there is variety in their method of painting. We have impressionism, and realism.. Most of us have been influenced by earlier painters. Our Monday CSI gatherings really depend on each other for creative critiques and support. On Tuesdays and Thursdays we have an instructor for the classes at TCAL. We invite you to come and watch us paint and see how much fun we are having.
