Officers assaulted in Doucette
Tyler County Booster
Just after midnight on April 22, Joseph Christopher Lewis, age 35 of Colmesneil was arrested by Tyler County Sheriff’s Deputy Rossi Carruth for felony assault to a public servant and attempt to take a weapon from an officer. Bond was set at $30,000 for each charge for a total of $60,000. The Sheriff’s office received a call about the domestic disturbance in progress just North of Doucette on Hwy. 69. Upon arrival, Carruth found a Ford van parked on the northbound shoulder of Hwy. 69. He observed a white female in the drivers seat and a white male 20 feet in front of the van, walking North on the side of the road. Lewis refused to stop and was told by the officer to come back to the van. When the officer was within reach of the suspect, Lewis reached for the gun belt and was trying to take the taser gun from the officer. Lewis struck the officer in the face. After a struggle, backup officers arrived. During the ongoing struggle to restrain the suspect, a second officer sustained injuries, went to Tyler County Hospital emergency room for treatment and was later released. Lewis was taken into custody without further incident. He bonded out the same day. |
