Five arrested on drug charges

On May 3 at 11 p.m. officer John Fuller made a traffic stop on Hwy. 69 North at the Woodville city limits. The automobile had defective lighting. Fuller talked to the with the driver, identified as Robert Joseph Chapdelaine, age 20 of Burton, Texas. Fuller noticed the four other passengers in the vehicle were nervous and their stories did not match. Cainine officer Renee Gutierrez was brought in to search the vehicle. The dog alerted, and a brown pouch in the driver’s side door was found. It contained a rock like substance later found to be crack cocaine. Drug paraphernalia was found, commonly used in smoking crack cocaine. Two occupants were charged with possession of a controlled substance. The driver, Chapdelaine, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Passenger Sarah Shown, age 18 of Bryan was charged with possession of a controlled substance. She had a crack cocaine pipe with residue hidden in her clothing. She was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Justin Travis Smith, age 23 of Doucette, Zachary Brian Shird, age 20 of Colmesneil and Len Brandon Shird, age 27 of Diboll were all charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. All five were arraigned before Judge Haney.
