Community responds with needed support for Hennigan Park
Tyler County Booster
During this past summer, Tyler County residents were informed about the serious problems with the infrastructure at Hennigan Park. In addition to the obvious appearance problems of overgrown vegetation and an unsightly parking lot, the more serious issues involve unsafe lighting, damaged scoreboards and a need for more volunteers to maintain the property. Members of the community, including the father and son team of Maxie Riley and Martin Riley, have joined together with Tyler County Youth Baseball League (TCYBL), Tyler County Sheriff ’s Department and the County Commissioners, to help get the ballpark back into shape. According to Sheriff David Hennigan, inmates who meet a certain criteria can be used to work at the ballpark if they are supervised by volunteers. The Riley’s stepped up to supervise and also do hands-on work at the ballpark and it already looks so much better. There is still a financial need of approximately $85,000 to fix the lighting, plus additional funds are needed to repair scoreboards, etc. If you are interested in volunteering, fundraising or making a donation towards this project, contact any member of the TCYBL or contact the Sheriff ’s department. |
