Communities mourn death of Bro. “Port” Calloway after wreck

On Thursday, September 22 Bro. Puddle “Port” Calloway, age 78, and his wife, Birtie May, age 73, of Spurger were traveling east on Highway 190 near Dam B when Mrs. Calloway hit a TxDOT truck with two passengers about 7:50 a.m. The workers, who were installing guardrails, did not suffer serious injuries. Also involved in the accident was a truck from Junior Construction Company who was on the shoulder of the highway. The single occupant was setting out road cones, according to reports and was uninjured. Davis Wrecker and Greg Puckett Logging, along with the Woodville volunteer fire department assisted at the scene where Bro. Port was pronounced dead. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 27. Mrs. Calloway was taken to Tyler County Hospital by Dogwood EMS and was then transferred to Beaumont where she remains in ICU as a result of her injuries.
