Citizen’s tip leads to three arrests

Tyler County Sheriff ’s department received a call from a concerned citizen on September 15 about a white Dodge pickup on the edge of the woods behind First National Bank on FM 1746 in Woodville. Deputy’s Chuck Marshall and Rossi Carruth arrived at the scene and witnessed a truck full of scrap metal and two suspects jumping out of the truck and running into the woods. According to reports, the men had stolen metal from an old mill site and metal was scattered throughout the woods in that area. Within 30 minutes, National Parks Service officer Mike Hughes apprehended the first suspect on foot. Kristopher Reece Adaway, age 24, of Woodville was arrested for evading arrest and theft of property. Bond was set at $6000 by Judge Bryan Weatherford. Approximately two and a half hours later the second suspect, Darren Daffron, age 18, also of Woodville, turned himself in. He was charged with evading arrest and theft of property and bond was set for $6000 by Weatherford. Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) also assisted in the search. While officers were searching the area, Tyler County Chief Deputy Clint Sturrock witnessed a suspicious vehicle driving slowly by the scene. Sturrock stopped the vehicle and discovered that the driver, Charles Berry, age 48, of Beaumont, had a warrant for parole violation. Berry was also arrested.
