Woodville TXDOT drivers compete in annual ‘Roadeo’
Tyler County Booster - June2007

You’ve probably never seen a “Roadeo” like this before, but it’s an annual event for Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) heavy vehicle drivers. Thirteen of the drivers in the Woodville maintenance office competed last week for the highest score at the event where they have to complete a driving obstacle course.
The seven part course is judged on a set scoring system that tests a variety of skills, including backing, turning, maneuvering through tight spaces and truck maintenance. The testing system is a way for the agency to check the driving skills of employees and make sure they meet the standards laid out by the department.
Curtis Holmes, Henry Sawyer and Mark Hanks tied for first place. Sawyer and Holmes will compete against other TXDOT offices in the Beaumont District in July. Winners will advance to state competition.
