Shannon Chambers named Tyler County Extension Agent
Tyler County Booster - September 2007

Shannon Chambers of Snyder, Texas has been named Texas Cooperative Extension’s County Extension Agent-Agriculture/Natural Resources for Tyler County, effective October 10, 2007 according to a joint announcement by Tyler County Judge Jacques Blanchette, the Tyler County Commissioners Court, and Dr. Ramona Kellam, District Extension Administrator for Texas Cooperative Extension headquartered at the Agricultural Research & Extension Center at Overton. As a new county agent, Chambers will participate in the FIRST STEP For Success program in Jasper County for one month prior to beginning her career in Tyler County. FIRST STEP provides the new agent an opportunity to develop a basic understanding of the role of a county agent and gives them the opportunity to observe and experience the day-to-day operations of a typical county Extension Office.
“I am pleased to have Shannon join our County Extension Faculty in Tyler County. She will be a great asset for Tyler County and Texas Cooperative Extension,’’ says Kellam. “I feel certain Shannon will do an excellent job because of her leadership skills, enthusiasm and variety of experiences.”
Chambers earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education from West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas in August 2007. While at West Texas A&M, Shannon was active in Collegiate FFA and Block and Bridle. She received the American FFA Degree, which is awarded to only one-third of college FFA members. She was nominated for Collegiate Who’s Who.
As a requirement for graduation from West Texas A&M University, Chambers worked as a student teacher for the Loraine Independent School District from January through May 2007. As a student teacher she prepared lesson plans, trained FFA judging teams and helped prepare animals for major stock shows. She served an internship with the Randall County Extension Office in Canyon, Texas where she helped with validation of animals entered in summer stock shows and other 4-H activities. During and prior to her years at WTAMU, Shannon worked in various capacities in the restaurant industry.
Chambers attended Snyder High School in Snyder, Texas. While in High School she served as president of FFA, president of the Lone Wolf District FFA and Vice President of Area II FFA. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Acapella Choir and FCA High School. She has had many experiences in public speaking and has competed in Creed Speaking at the National FFA level.
Chambers fills the position formerly held by Lance Seamans. As County Extension Agent-AG/NR she will work with all aspects of agriculture and natural resources in Tyler County.
The County Extension Office in Tyler County is part of Texas Cooperative Extension, an agency of the Texas A&M University System. Local Extension programs extend university resources to local residents by providing practical information and education in the four areas of agriculture and natural resources, family and consumer sciences, 4-H and youth development, and community development. Extension is a cooperative effort of the United States Department of Agriculture, the State of Texas through Texas A&M University, and the Tyler County Commissioners’ Court.
“I am excited to join the Tyler County Extension faculty,” Chambers told Commissioners. “I hope to bring new ideas for the community and look forward to working with the County. I appreciate Dr. Kellam, Judge Blanchette and the Tyler County Commissioners Court for giving me the opportunity to serve the people of Tyler County.”
