C-C High School student dies from injuries sustained in car wreck
CORRIGAN -- The students and faculty at Corrigan-Camden High School and the community of Corrigan are saddened due to the loss of one of the high school students who passed away Monday due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident that happened on Sunday. Victoria Michelle Foster, 16, of Corrigan and a junior at Corrigan-Camden High School along with her best friend Jillian Spaw were involved in a one-vehicle accident on Sunday on a return trip home to Corrigan from Colmesneil. The two Corrigan teenagers crashed into a tree on a curve near the old Barnes Packing Plant on FM 1745 between Colmesneil and Chester. According to Department of Public Safety Sergeant Steve Holloway, Spaw, a 16-year old junior at Corrigan-Camden High School and Foster, the driver of a 2000 Ford Mustang, were travelling at a high rate of speed after visiting friends. It is reported the Mustang left the road into loose gravel causing Foster to lose control, sending the car into a tree and splitting it in half. Foster was transported by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Hospital Sunday afternoon in Beaumont where she died at 11:55 a.m. on Monday, January 9. Spaw was transported to Tyler County Hospital in Woodvlle and was released and reported in good condition. The C-CISD had counselors on hand this week to help students and faculty deal with the loss. Foster is the daughter of Joel Foster of Corrigan and Sherri Burrous of Huntington and the granddaughter of Jerry Cockrell and Patricia Thompson of Corrigan. She also had a sister, Sara Foster Fann and a brother, Christopher Foster. Foster was a lifelong resident of Corrigan and attended Angelina College. Funeral Services for Foster, will be held Monday, January 23, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church Family Life Center in Corrigan. Interment will follow in the Union Springs Cemetery in Corrigan, Texas. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 22, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church Family Life Center in Corrigan. |
