LIVINGSTON — Texas Department of Transportation Bridge Engineer Nancy Smith updated Polk County Commis-sioners regarding progress on repairs or replacement of off-system bridges.Smith told the commission-ers that construction would be-gin soon on two of six bridges. After the competition of two bridges along Upper Leggett Road, TxDOT would then tack-le the remaining four bridge projects, two bridges at a time.“Y’all are doing a great job. Six bridges is great, I have been using you as an example to the other counties. You do well at working with our engineering fi rm,” Smith said. The court will select an-other six bridges to update for next year’s bridge program and adopt a resolution affi rming their selection. Smith would then process the resolution and begin work on the next round of bridge updates.Precinct 1 Commissioner Bob Willis asked the court to delay a vote to purchase a re3cording system for judicial center courtrooms, persuasion carts and extend a warranty for the Judicial Center elevator.“The contract is still being re-viewed and they were not ready to release it. It was placed on the agenda ahead of time, hop-ing they would have everything ready. We will probably vote on it next time,” Willis said. The Commissioners also:* Recognized recipients of the Bobby Smith Memo-rial Scholarships sponsored by Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson LLP, who handles the county’s delinquent tax collec-tions and the law enforcement scholarships sponsored by Community Education Center (operators of the IAH Adult Detention Center). * Approved an emergency management request to pur-chase a $1,662 software and support plan, to be paid from the general fund balance and included on the year-end issu-ance of legally authorized debt. * Approved a request from the Pct. 1 Constable to appoint Danny Beckworth as reserve deputy constable. |
