LIVINGSTON — In an elections season that may go in the record books for taking unusual twists and turns, the Pct. 3 Constable’s race has had an unfair share of complications. An error in May 13 edition of the Polk County Enterprise, resulted in incumbent Ray Myers’ name being omitted from the sample ballots for the Republican Primary. The error was repeated in last Thursday’s edition of the Corrigan Times. A correct sample ballot for Precinct 3 appears on Page 3. That error, combined with the confusion over the change in the primary dates due to redistricting, and Myers’ switch from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party, have made it diffi cult for Myers’ supporters to track down which ballot they need to get to vote for him. Myers faces opposition in the Republican primary from Steve Dickens, who is also a Polk County native, who retired from Lufkin Police Department after 21 years to seek the Pct. 3 Constable position. Dickens served in patrol and narcotics while with Lufkin PD. Myers has held the Pct. 3 post for 20 years. Myers has earned more than 3,000 hours of continuing education on civil process service, one of the main duties of the elected post in addition to serving as bailiff for the Justice of the Peace Court. Early voting continues through May 25. Election Day is Tuesday, May 29.
