Leggett Post Office to reduce office hours
LIVINGSTON – At a public meeting Thursday, Manager of Post Offi ce Operations (MPOO), Chuck Kelly, stated the Leggett Post Offi ce would conduct a plan to reduce weekday retail offi ce hours instead of closing down. Citizens of the Leggett community voiced their concerns and comments about the proposed "Post Plan" at a public meeting held in the Livingston VFW Post last Thursday. Earlier in April, a survey was conducted to determine how to preserve the small post offi ce located on Hwy 59 N in Leggett. The "Post Plan" included different options that involved relocating the offi ce to a different building, reducing hours or offering alternative mailbox and retail delivery services. The majority of those surveyed agreed that simply reducing retail offi ce hours would be acceptable to keep the location in Leggett open for the community during the week. Chuck Kelly (MPOO), who manages all local USPS offi ces in the district, hosted the meeting to announce the postal service had obtained the input of the Leggett community and are moving forward to keep their office open by reducing actual workload from eight to four hours per weekday. Saturday office hours would not change. "The city of Leggett will see no impact [concerning] their mailboxes, which will remain open," said Kelly. "We're just reducing hours in each unit and combining units to reduce costs for the postal service." An official decision on the new Leggett office hours will be determined in the coming weeks.
