Reception set for former councilman

A special event honoring former councilman Jack Shiveley and his wife Marge for their years of dedication to Houston County will be held at the Crockett Civic Center on Friday, Aug. 1 from 4-6 p.m.
Shiveley represented Precinct 1 on Crockett City Council for five terms beginning in 1993. He served as mayor pro-tem in 2000.
His service to civic organizations included Crockett Planning and Zoning commission, Houston County Tax Appraisal Review Board, Pine Tree Manor Board, Civic Center Committee for Improvements.
He has also been a member of the Crockett Lions Club since 1992.
For many years he served as chairman of the Crockett Lions Club Annual Broom and Mop sale and was always on hand to ensure its success.
Over the years, Mrs. Shiveley also dedicated much of her time to various community organizations including the downtown Beautification Corporation, Davy Crockett Pilot Club, and Houston County Republican Women's Club.
She also worked on countless community projects organized by the First United Methodist Church.
The couple has lived in Crockett for nearly 25 years and will move to Lufkin to reside in an assisted living center there.
