Firefighters braved temperatures of over 100 degrees to battle a raging blaze that destroyed a home on PR 5047 Wednesday afternoon, July 30.
According to reports, Latexo Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call at about 12:30 p.m. and called for assistance from Belott Volunteer Fire Department, Crockett Fire Department and Grapeland Volunteer Fire Department.
A water holding tank was set up and the fire departments used their tanker trucks to continuously shuttle water to the scene located off CR 1630 about seven miles from Loop 304 on FM 2022.
According to Latexo VFD Chief Larry Melson, firefighters used 16,000-20,000 gallons of water battling the blaze that consumed the residence.
A resident of the home was transported to ETMC Crockett by ETMC EMS for treatment of injuries he reportedly sustained as a result of the incident.
As of press time Friday, the cause of the fire remained under investigation by the Houston County Fire Marshal.
Houston County Constable Precinct 1 Red Smith, Houston County Sheriff's Office, Texas Department of Public Safety and the Red Cross also responded to the call.
