Drought continues
Houston County Courier -  August 2009

Central Texas received some much needed rain on Thursday, July 30, but the state needs a lot more to recover from the devastating drought.
New figures were released on Thursday morning by the U.S. Drought Monitor showing conditions are getting worse.
The figures indicate that 18.7 percent of the state is experiencing exceptional drought conditions compared to a mere 3.2 percent in the same time period in 2008.
The calendar year began with 4.2 percent of the states counties listed in the exceptional category, the highest drought condition rating.
The map indicates that Houston County is in the abnormally dry-severe percentile.
Additional information about the drought calculations can be obtained at the website http://drought.unl.edu.dm.
