The Grapeland Police Department is searching for a suspect who has acquired the name, “Tamale Bandit” throughout the area.
According to reports, the suspect, Alicia Sanchez Garza, 44, of Normangee, is wanted for theft and forgery of a financial instrument.
Authorities said Ms. Garza goes into a business asking if anyone would like to purchase tamales. If the buyer gives her money she states she needs to go to her car to make change and get the tamales. She never returns.
In another scenario, she brings the tamales inside the business with her and watches to see where purses are kept and slips back in when the owners are not watching and steals purses, money or debit cards.
Ms. Garza is reportedly using a 1991 Chevrolet Corsica, four-door, white in color. Authorities also believe she may be using a 1999 black Chevrolet pickup.
Anyone with information about the suspect is encouraged to call the Grapeland Police Department at 687-5141.
