Emergency Services meet
Houston County Courier
The Board of the Emergency Services Commissioners of Houston County Emergency Services District No. 2 met Thursday, July 29. Crockett Fire Chief Darrell Deckard presented information to the board about a pending grant from the Texas Forest Service. The board members approved providing the Crockett Fire Department with $1,061 in matching funds. The TFS grant will pay $3,184. The funds will be used to purchase three pieces of rescue equipment, Deckard explained. One item is a 12,000-pound wench for the grass truck, replacing the one that was damaged while working a wreck last spring. A “res-Q-strut”, which is a tubular device used to help stabilize overturned vehicles, will also be purchased. The third item, a rescue saw, is a tool Deckard described a “monster skill saw”. The board’s next meeting will be a budget workshop at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5.
