Blood drive announced Benefits Morgan LaRue
Houston County Courier
Nine-year-old Morgan LaRue of Lovelady is currently undergoing treatment for bone cancer at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. On Aug. 25, Crockett residents have an opportunity to help out by donating blood during Elasto-Tech Southwest’s replenishment blood drive for Morgan, the granddaughter of blood drive chairperson Connie LaRue. Cancer patients often receive transfusions in conjunction with chemotherapy. By taking just one hour of time to donate blood, donors can help ensure there is an adequate supply of blood available for patients like Morgan. More than 1,000 donations are needed every month to meet the needs of patients in East Texas. All who donate or attempt to donate will also be rewarded with a coupon for a free pint of Blue Bell ice cream. The blood drive will be held Wednesday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Elasto-Tech Southwest, 1700 Southwest Loop 304 in Crockett. Contact blood drive chair-person Connie LaRue at 713-392-4165 to schedule a donation. The Blood Center East Texas is the local community blood center and primary supplier of blood products to eight hospitals and health-care facilities in the six East Texas counties surrounding Lufkin and Nacogdoches. The Blood Center East Texas is asking its donors to Commit for Life. It takes three simple steps: 1) Donate once per quarter; 2) Allow the Blood Center to contact you; and 3) Spread the word, encouraging others to Commit for Life. Donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good general health. Individuals who are 16 years of age, at least 122 pounds, in good general health and have parental consent also may donate.
