Three charged in assault

On Tuesday, Dec. 9, Houston County deputies responded to a call reporting an assault that occurred at 1730 CR 1035 in the Beria Community.
The caller reported that he had been struck in the head with a hammer and the three suspects had fled in a silver 2000 Kia.
The victim, later identified as Hollis Ellis, age 81, was taken to ETMC in Crockett where he was treated for his injuries.
The suspect vehicle was
found in Trinity County later the same evening. Information from victim and information discovered during the investigation, led to the identities of the three suspects.
On Wednesday, Dec. 10, two suspects, Doyle McCrary, age 22, and Rebecca Cleveland, age 26, both of Trinity, voluntarily surrendered to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, where they were booked into jail.
On Tuesday, Dec. 16, the third suspect, James Eric Cleveland, age 26, also of Trinity, who had fled to the Dallas area, turned himself in when family members convinced him to surrender himself to local authorities there. The suspect is awaiting extradition to Houston County.
All three suspects were charged with engaging in organized criminal activity, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated robbery/serious bodily injury and injury to the elderly/disabled.
As of press time Wednesday, all of the suspects remained incarcerated at the HCSO Jail.
