DETCOG to Hold Two Public Hearings for Public Comment on Plan

JASPER - The Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) will hold two public hearings to allow the public to comment on a proposed plan for making available a second round of Hurricane Ike Recovery funds.
The Texas Department of Rural Affairs has allocated $208,000,000 in U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development disaster relief funds to the 12 county DETCOG Region.
DETCOG is charged with developing a method for equitably making the funds available to the cities and counties in the region for infrastructure and housing projects.
Both public hearings are scheduled for Friday, Dec. 11.
One is scheduled at 10 a.m. that morning at the Livingston-Polk County Chamber of Commerce located at 1001 Hwy. 59 Loop North in Livingston.
The second hearing is scheduled for 3 p.m. that afternoon in the Lufkin City Commission Meeting Room (RM102) located at 300 East Shepherd in Lufkin.
In addition to written and oral comments taken at the public hearings, written comments may be sent to Rusty Phillips, Director of Regional Services at the DETCOG office at 210 Premier Drive, Jasper, Texas 75951. Those comments must be received before 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14.
The draft method of distribution will be posted on DETCOG’s internet web site, www.DETCOG.org, before 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4. It will also be available for review at the Deep East Texas Council of Governments offices located at 210 Premier Drive in Jasper and 118 South First, Lufkin.
The Deep East Texas Council of Governments will provide for reasonable accommodations for persons attending Deep East Texas Council of Governments functions.
Requests from persons needing special accommodations should be received by Deep East Texas Council of Governments staff 24-hours prior to the function.
The public hearing will be conducted in English and requests for language interpreters or other special communication needs should be made at least 48 hours prior to a function. Please call (409) 384-5704 for assistance.
