The Grapeland FFA Senior Quiz Team came home with tenth place after a very close and challenging competition in the State Leadership Contest held Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2 and 3, at Sam Houston State University. A valued part of the experience was having lunch with Texas Deputy Commissioner of Educationn and FFA Executive Director Tom Maynard. Maynard explained many details about the behind the scenes operation of running an organization that boasts more than 80,000 members. He also elaborated about the host of career opportunities available to FFA students after they complete their education. Additionally, Maynard told the students about a lot of interesting people and celebrities that have come through the FFA that he has had the pleasure of knowing. One thing the students wanted to know was how he went from high school FFA member to being Texas Education Agency executive. The lunch with Maynard was a great opportunity for the students and they thank him for taking time to have lunch with them and to visit. |
