City calls May election

Crockett city councilmen approved an order calling for the Saturday, May 9 General Election for the position of mayor and council positions Precinct 1 and 2.
The positions are currently held by Mayor Wayne Mash and Councilmen Precinct 1 James Hall and Councilman Precinct 2 Darius Kitchen.
Early voting will be held 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. beginning on Monday, April 27 and continuing through Friday, May 1 and 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on Monday, May 4 and Tuesday, May 5.
Candidates can submit an application for a place on the ballot Monday, Feb. 9-Monday, March 9.
Council also approved a joint election agreement between Crockett Independent School District and the city for common polling places.
The entities will share Crockett Fire Station in District 2, Crockett High School in District 3, and Crockett Alternative School in District 4.
In other business, council awarded the bid in the amount of $171,400 for a new 2,000-gallon capacity wetside tank truck for the Crockett Fire Department to Fouts Brothers, Inc. of Smyrna, Ga.
Council tabled taking bids on the sale of a 1929 fire truck owned by the city.
Council approved a resolution endorsing certain legislative changes to enhance the competitive electric market supported by Cities Aggregation Power Project, Inc.
