Houston County Wins Award for Website

Houston County won the County of the Month award in 2006, 2007 and in March 2008 and therefore became eligible for the County of the Year Award.  The county was also listed in the Hall of Fame after winning county of the month three times.
Houston County has never before received the County of the Month Award since its inception in 1997.

Since May 2006 she has made available resources and provided assistance to county visitors interested in the rich history of the county.
The award for TXGenWeb "County of the Year Award" is given to a county at the end of each year.  The website contains records, addresses, biographies, and a calendar of events, photographs and articles about historical places.
It also features stories and publishes information about schools, cemeteries, churches, census, marriages, military and reunions, as well as obituaries of county residents.
Mrs. Bennett, a retiree from her income tax preparation business, claims to be self-
taught on the computer.  Building a webpage has been a "real learning experience," Mrs. Bennett said. She added that when she makes a mistake, she corrects it and goes forward.
