An early Wednesday morning, Jan. 14 fire completely destroyed the home of First Baptist Church Kennard’s Pastor Jim Durham and his family.
The call was dispatched at 7:45 a.m. Kennard Volunteer Fire Department responded and for assistance from Crockett Fire Department to help battle the blaze at the parsonage.
CFD responded to the call for mutual aid with three units and when they arrived the home was fully engulfed.
Houston County Fire Marshal David Lamb said the fire started in the attic above the laundry room and spread through the attic.
Neighbors reportedly saw the smoke and rushed to get water hoses to water down their homes to prevent the fire from spreading and their hoses were frozen as a result of the early morning temperatures.
One neighbor said, “Excellent fire departments as well as minimal wind helped keep the fire contained.”
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
Kennard First Responders, Houston County Fire Marshal and Constable Precinct 1 Morris Luker also responded to the call.
