Bill filed to increase homestead exemption to $30,000

AUSTIN-- State Representative Chuck Hopson has re-filed a proposed bill and constitutional amendment to bring real tax relief to Texas families by raising the homestead exemption to $30,000.
Rep. Hopson believes this is a fiscally appropriate and conservative way to offer tax relief.  House Bill 668 would double the state's homestead exemption from its current level of $15,000.
"Doubling the homestead exemption is the best way to give Texas homeowners the kind of property tax relief we are all looking for," said Hopson. 
“We have bipartisan support in both the House and the Senate for a homestead exemption, and my hope is that this bill will pass and do what is best for the homeowners of Texas."
