On Monday, Jan. 5, after a food drive that lasted from November through December, the Houston County Senior Citizen Center donated a total of 673 canned goods to Jim Tom Ainsworth, executive director of SHARE for distribution to the needy in the community.
According to Senior Citizens of America Executive Director Glenna Enos, the Lovelady High School student body and elderly participants of SCOA collected the food items.
The next project on the Senior Citizens Center's agenda is another food drive of nonperishable food items and canned goods, plus personal and hygienic items, entitled "Gifts from the Heart." A deadline of Feb. 14, Valentine's Day, is noted.
Collection boxes will be available on the premises of the center for donations, which will then be presented to SHARE at the appropriate time at their new location, the former Crockett Alternative School across from the First Baptist Church.
