Waiting a full day after New Year's Day to make his arrival, Slade Parker Johnson, born Friday, Jan. 2, at 2:25 a.m., was the first baby to bring in the New Year in Houston County.
Son of Tyson and Marsha Johnson of Centerville, Baby Johnson weighed 7 pounds 10 ounces and was delivered by Dr. Chris Haeckler at The Birthing Center of East Texas Medical Center-Crockett.
The state's first baby of 2009 arrived three seconds after midnight on New Year's Day. Alberto A. Rios II Segura, the son of Virginia and Jose Segura of San Antonio weighed 6 pounds and 14 ounces. He has two brothers, Jesus and Jose to greet him when he goes home.
The first 2009 baby delivered in the United States made his arrival one-second past midnight on Thursday, Jan. 1 according to the Associated Press and other sources.
Edgar Rafeal Moreno was born in Livingston, NJ. Baby Moreno is the first child of Edgar and Miris Moreno.
The United States Census Bureau reports that every 8 seconds a baby is born in the U.S., which accounts for some of the 2.7 million population increase for the new year.
