Former judge passes

CROCKETT – A former Houston County judge and superintendent of schools, Charles E. English, passed away on Monday, Dec. 28 at the age of 89 in Nacogdoches.
English was born in Kennard and after serving in the Army during WWII had a long career in education that began in 1954.
He served as a teacher and coach n Pennington, Latexo and Crockett Independent School districts.
He was elected County School Superintendent for Houston County and served in that capacity six years.
He retired from public education in 1983 and was elected as county judge in 1986.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Nacogdoches, Lothrop Lodge #21 Commandry, Lufkin Blue Lodge #66, Order of the eastern Star 509, shriners Scottish Rite, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Retired Teachers Association, life Member of the Texas Association of School Administrators, Life Member of the Stephen F. Austin Alumni Association and a past member of the Crockett, Kennard and Lovelady Lions Clubs.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning, Dec. 31 at 11 a.m. in the Callaway-Allee memorial Chapel. |
