Red Cross makes donation to church
Houston County Courier - January 2010
CROCKETT – In a ceremony held on Wednesday, Jan., 20, Director of the Red Cross of Conroe, Phillip Arroyo received a $3,200 check from Rev. Earl Harris, pastor of the Bethel Baptist Church.
The money was raised through efforts sponsored by Bethel Baptist Church, from pastors and members of various churches, citizens of Houston County, and the Dr. Martin L. King Committee.
“This was in response to the tragedy in Haiti, which touched the hearts of people all over the world, and Houston County wanted to do our fair share,” said Rev. Harris.
“The support and pouring out of love and money has been so overwhelming,” said Rev Harris.
“I continue to receive calls daily from persons wanting to contribute,” said Shirley Murray, one of the organizers.
“The need right now is for cash. Later there will be a need for water, food, clothes,” said Murray.
“Right now a lot of the money is to be used for medicine and supplies,” said Arroyo.
