Wife in custody Grapeland man murdered

A 53-year-old Grapeland man was found dead Friday night after his wife reportedly called 911 to say she had shot her husband. The Houston County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Dec. 3, 2010 at approximately 9:33 p.m., the Houston County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in reference to a reported shooting that occurred on CR 2310, which is located just south of FM 1272, in Grapeland. Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Grapeland P.D. and Grapeland EMS responded to the scene. Upon arrival, deputies found Ernest Bernard, age 53, lying on the living room floor with a single gunshot wound to the face. He was later pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Clyde Black shortly after deputies’ arrival. The suspect was identified as Tina Bernard, age 43, who is the wife of the deceased. She was taken into custody and charged with murder. Bond was set at $200,000 and she is still incarcerated at this time. The children that were at the residence at the time of the shooting were brought to the sheriff’s office and interviewed about the shooting and were later released to family members. The body of the deceased was sent to Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to be performed. The investigation is still on-going at this time.
