Superintendent Dr. Douglas E. Moore will remain at his post until Jan. 30, 2015 after the Crockett Independent School Board of Trustees approved the extension on his contract at their regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 23. The meeting began with a visit from Crockett Elementary schoolers ranging from the second through the fifthgrade. These students were recognized for their effort and success at University Interscholastic League or UIL subjects like; Music Memory, Creative Writing, Social Studies, Art, Team Music, Spelling, Number Sense, and Maps, Graphs and Charts, with many of them coming in first place in competition. Each student had his/her name called and stood before the board proud of their accomplishments. Also included in the meeting was a report by Assistant Superintendent Jeannie Julian regarding the Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS). Last year, Crockett High School, Crockett Junior High School and Pineywoods AEC were rated academically unacceptable while the elementary school was academically acceptable. She reported that although there is still room for improvement they see phenomenal growth measures and that other growth patterns are seen as well. In other business, Saturday, May 12 was set for elections to the Crockett School Board of Trustees. Applications will be accepted from Saturday, Feb. 4 until 5 p.m. Monday, March 5, at the CISD Administration Building. Terms of office will expire in May for Trustee Roy E. Johnson of District 3, Trustee Karen Johnson of District 4, and Trustee Lela P. Wheeler of District 7. For voters in those districts, early voting will begin April 30 and end on May 8 at the CISD Administration Building. The board also approved the motion to advertise for bids for the sale of the used HVAC units after they were replaced when the district was awarded the Cool School grant. Trustee Dr. John Garner also added that the board might consider taking any of the non-working units to the scrap yard to salvage what metal they could for additional district funds. With budget cuts on the loom, any extra funds the district can procure will be eagerly accepted. Moore commended the board on their support and awarded each board member with a certificate in honor of January being School Board Recognition Month with this year’s theme “Helping Our Kids Shine”. Crockett Junior High School Principal Johnita Martin gave each of the board members a goodie basket for their dedicated service.
