The Crockett City Council met in special session Thursday, Jan. 5 to pay tribute to the memory of Precinct 3 Councilman Nathan Gardner, Jr. and to appoint a new councilman to fill the Precinct 3 position until the city’s next general election. After the mayor and council members spoke about Gardner’s contributions to the city and observed a moment of silence, a motion was made and seconded to appoint Larry Robbins, one of Gardner’s longtime friends, to the Precinct 3 council seat. The council unanimously voted to appoint Robbins, then Crockett City Administrator Ron Duncan administered the oath of office to him and Robbins was seated at the council bench. Robbins said he and Gardner had many conversations about city council before Gardner became ill, and that Gardner had not intended to run for re-election. He said he felt honored to be elected and looked forward to serving. |
