County looses longtime volunteer

Houston County lost a longtime friend and volunteer with the passing of 87-year-old Marjorie Shiveley on Wednesday, July 8.
She and her husband Jack came to Crockett in 1985 in connection with his employment with the company now known as Alloy Polymers in Latexo,
Affectionately known as Marge, she volunteered with several organizations and was a member of the First United Methodist Church Crockett. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, Della Gus Sunday School Class and Young at Heart.
She served as president of the Davy Crockett Pilot Club, precinct chairman of Republican Party of Houston County. election judge, election clerk, president of Republican Women of Houston County and was a member of Crockett Downtown Beautification Corporation.
She was well known throughout the community for her cooking and baking.
Cardinals and redbirds were among her favorite collectibles.
She and her husband Jack moved to a retirement center in Lufkin about 10 months ago.
Services were held on Saturday, July 11 at Evergreen Memorial Park.
