What organizers hope will become an annual event again, the Austonio Trail-Ride that was held on Saturday, July 4 was well attended with 58 trail riders who participated in the 10.5 mile ride
The day began at 8:30 a.m. and the riders were back at the pavilion adjacent to the Austonio Community Center about 12 p.m. and ready for a barbecue lunch.
John Dunbar and Wayne Hough served as trail bosses for the ride that took participants out Hwy. 21 west about two miles towards Midway then the group turned and headed toward the river bottom then back to Austonio.
The trail ride was an annual event in Austonio for about 14 years until about 1992.
Several people helped make the event a success including Constables Red Smith and Morris Luker, as well as Johnson Allee who helped get the trail riders safely down Hwy. 21 west to the nursery road.
The barbecue was cooked by Russell Jenkins, Johnny Boyd, and Dean LaRue.
Big Perry Little and Friends provided the live entertainment 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Others in the community prepared the side dishes, cakes and helped with all the aspects of putting the event on.
