Singer advances in American Idol competition

After winning the East Texas American Idol competition held in Tyler on Saturday, June 27, Stephen Bobbitt will travel to Denver, Colo. for the next phase of the process to audition for the popular television program.
The 21-year-old Bobbitt competed against 80 contestants to win the chance to audition in Denver on Tuesday, July 14.
Bobbitt said if he passes the audition he could advance to the competition in Hollywood, Calif.
Bobbitt sings country and Christian songs and performed an old Conway Twitty tune, “Good Bye Time” during the East Texas contest.
The young singer said he has been to Nashville, Tenn. twice for auditions and looks forward to the opportunity to perform in Denver.
He is the son of Darrel and Teressa Bobbitt and the grandson of Bill and Betty Gilbert and Charlie and Belissa Bobbitt, all of Houston County.
