The Crockett Fire Department has taken delivery of a new fire truck that will enable firefighters to provide an additional source of water at fire scenes.
The tanker will be of the greatest utility in areas of the county that are part of the Emergency Services District (ESD) #2 serviced by the city.
According to CFD Chief Darrell Deckard, Tanker 5, as it will be called, is a 2,000 gallon, 2010 Kenworth that was purchased from Fouts Brothers, Inc. of Smyrna, Ga.
The tanker also has a bladder that can be set-up at a fire scene to allow firefighters to accumulate an additional source of water.
The tanker was purchased using a Texas Forest Service grant, which had a 10 percent match from the city. The total cost of the unit was $164,900.
The grant program, which is administerred by the Texas Forest Service is funded by monies paid to the state by insurance companies who operate in the state.
This is the first time the city has been funded for a truck since the grant program was established 15 years ago.
Members of CFD traveled to Georgia to take delivery of the unit and drove it back to Crockett.
