Houston County Historical Commission honored The Texas Historical Commission (THC) recently recognized Houston County with the 2011 Distinguished Service Award. The honor was presented to HCHC Chairperson Barbara Wooten during Tuesday, June 26 meeting of the Houston County Commissioner’s Court. The award recognizes County Historical Commissions (CHCs) that work toward substantial preservation efforts that lead to a greater understanding of state and local history. These efforts also promote stewardship of the state’s cultural and historic resources, encourage economic development within urban and rural areas of our state, and generate interest in the history and character of Texas. |
