Commissioners reschedule meeting
Houston County Courier - June 2008

The Houston County Commissioners Court will conduct a public hearing Tuesday evening, June 10 to answer questions and receive comments from the public about construction of a new county jail or expansion of the existing jail.
"We have been discussing the need for additional jail space for months," said Houston County Judge Lonnie Hunt.
"We have the results of a feasibility study, and we have estimates from the architect on the cost of expanding our existing facility, or building a new facility.  It's time for us to make a decision and move this project forward."
"Before we make that decision, we want to give all citizens an opportunity to ask questions and express their views to us," he added.
The public hearing will be held as part of a special Commissioners Court meeting which will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Commissioners Courtroom, located in the Courthouse Annex on the south side of the square in Crockett.
If the turnout exceeds the capacity of the Commissioners Courtroom, the meeting will be moved next door to the Community Room of First Community Bank.
Houston County Sheriff Darrel Bobbitt, the county's jail architect, bond counsel and financial advisor will all be present at the meeting to answer any questions the public may have.
The full agenda for the meeting will be posted on the county's website at www.co.houston.tx.us after 5 p.m. this Friday.
