Local TWC helps students
Houston County Courier - June 2009
Summer youth orientations were held in Houston and Trinity counties recently marking the beginning of the summer youth employment program by WorkForce Solutions.
On Monday, June 8, some 25 participants, all between the ages of 14-24 completed new hire orientation in Crockett!
On Wednesday, June 10, 10 participants completed new hire orientation in Trinity.
All of these students and young adults will begin working, many for the first time ever, on Monday June 15, in and about Houston and Trinity Counties.
“We currently have over 120 employers signed up in our 12 County area to provide work experience and training for the next eight weeks to 350 youth ages 14 – 24,” TWC representatives said.
Recent studies have shown that more than 10,000 Deep East Texas disadvantaged youth are not employed or not in school.
US Youth at Work, funded by WorkForce Solutions, is an effort to train and place some of these young people in employment for the summer of 2009.
This opportunity will allow participants to gain valuable job readiness and on the job work experience. In return, local businesses will benefit by their investment in helping to prepare a future highly motivated well-trained workforce.
