Kennard “Ice Cream For Books” celebration
Houston County Courier
KENNARD - The Kennard Elementary “Ice Cream for Books” day celebration was a huge success. The student’s day was filled with numerous reading related activities. A storybook cha-racter costume contest was conducted. Students also read every night for about a month before reading day to receive prizes for their accomplishment. Many guest readers came and participated in presenting books to our students. Johnny Appleseed, Rainbow Fish, Smokey the Bear, and Cowboy Kellum, Tiger Mas-cot, and the fireman were among some of the partici-pants. Students presented storybook skits and Reader’s Theatre stories to each other. Students were rewarded for reading books and passing tests over the books by having an AR store, where they could purchase prizes for their hard work. PTF provided the stu-dents with an ice cream treat after lunch. Many parents and visitors helped to make our day more special. Several businesses in the area donated prizes for the winners of our contests. Students claimed it was the best school day of the year. Kennard students are on the track to better reading and re-ally enjoyed a day of wonder-ful surprises.
