HCHD Shelves Bids

Houston County Hospital District Board of Directors met in a called meeting on Tuesday, March 3 to open and accept bids for the Resident-Student Housing facility.
Two bids were opened: Nicholas Construction's bid of $165,500 and Les Edwards' bid of $195,000.
Board member Dr. Patrick Walker made a motion to accept the low bid, after which the discussion and debate began.  Dr. Walker later withdrew his motion for lack of support.
Members Deborah Porth Blackwell, Barbara Crowson, Dr. Richard Kelly, Ronald LaRue and Virginia Lewis agreed to review the specifications during the next two weeks before the regular meeting on Tuesday, March 17 to be ready to vote their intent to move ahead with construction for the Resident-Student Housing project.
Mrs. Crowson summed up the board's majority by saying, "We have the money, but I'd like the bids to be more specific."
