Local General Motors dealer Jim Ulrich closed his business located at the intersection of Loop 304 and Hwy. 19 South on Monday, March 9.
Jim Ulrich Motors, Inc. dealership, sold Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac and GMC trucks and reportedly closed due to lack of sales and market conditions.
The 67-year-old Ulrich said he began working at the dealership 38 years ago selling cars and purchased it in September 1977.
He said the company currently has three employees and eight years ago the firm employed nine people.
Ulrich said during the best years in the early 1990s, the dealership sold 350-400 new and used cars per year.
In the interview Ulrich said that General Motors would take back the new cars and trucks that remained on the property and that the used cars would be liquidated.
He also said that General Motors sales nationwide were off some 75 percent in February.
Ulrich said he would also sell the three acres and buildings associated with the business.
He said that customers could utilize other General Motors dealers for warranty work.
Ulrich said, “I appreciate all the people who traded with me and want to thank them for their business.”
